Google - Location Systems vs Skyhook Wireless

@holycalamityscreaminsanity -  MS was here before iPhone or Android.  There was no GPS requirement either.  So they have had a Grandfather pass as they have been here from the early days. Just because they are a late comer to this game does not mean they are not doing it.  Double check their GPS system and the MS Mapping system as well as the Search engine Bing.  I will lay strong odds there is just as much locational collecting infrastructure as there is in any Android or iPhone.  Not to mention Nokia and GPS.  They have had GPS in their phones for longer than the entire bunch.  So the issue at hand is the Feds did not put a limit on how or who could use the GPS information.  There were no privacy standards in place.  That is the crux of this entire argument here.  The company Skyhook Wireless is just now getting to Android.  It is on Nokia and others already.  They were able to strike a deal.  The squawking here is Google did not like some other service that charges to use the info in another fashion.  Google was trying to protect their infrastructure and platform.  As long as the two products do not step on each other this should be a mute point.

I suspect in the end the Skyhook Wireless folks will be allowed to create a product for Android.  It may even appear on the Android Market.  However, it will be after an exhaustive battle in court that this will be hammered out.  Truth be told, the small guys should have had Google Execs out on the town to discuss this off line so to speak and all would have reached an agreement of sorts and that would have solved this issue.

But now we are in a legal p***ing contest to see who purchases the best attorneys.  Any bets on which has deeper pockets?

Then it will come down to just how liberal the judge is or if the Bilderbergs have an interest in this....
